Over 85% of municipal water in the U.S. is considered "hard water". Although water is typically crystal clear, it contains a substantial amount of minerals and chemicals. Naturally water "picks up" minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron as it falls as clean rainwater. It flows through the earths water columns passing sediment beds such as limestone, sand, clay, iron ore and other underground deposits. The amount of minerals collected during the process ultimately determines the hardness of the water. These minerals are not removed by municipalities during the treatment process. However there are other chemicals added such as chlorine, fluoride and nitrates which are also harmful to a boats components and finish. The softrinse system is designed to help remove those harmful chemicals and minerals.
